What kinds of traits does spirituality inspire in women?
I like to divide my life into categories and then think about each of them as part of a five-course meal. For instance, health is the salad, friends are the dessert, and I'll share the rest in another post. But even when I think I'm really holding it together in all five courses (categories), I'll notice something is still missing. If my relationship isn't where it needs to be with God, then nothing else is truly where it needs to be. Spirituality is the sixth category, but it's not a course. Rather it's the water (or wine) at the table. I need it for survival and to enhance all of the other courses.
We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience. ~Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
Belief in God, belief in a higher power...it's personal. When I'm in touch with my Creator, my thoughts and actions are more aligned with who I am, and my heart is more aligned with my family and my community in that I am receptive as to how I can best serve. This article in Psychology Today highlights ways spirituality can benefit us. I discovered how these traits can also help us be more appreciative about getting older.
Graciousness
Spirituality helps us become more gracious. Gratitude breeds positivity. A happy spirit overcomes an aging body every day of the week. And an attitude of gratitude helps us be more thankful about our past and how we got to our current state. Then we are able to live in the moment, knowing we are exactly where we are supposed to be, no matter our age.
Self-Actualization
Spirituality inspires growth and wanting to be a better person. Realize that as you move along your journey, you're improving in the ways that count. This offers a sense of excitement about the future. We can look forward to getting older because that means we will be a better version of ourselves in x amount of years. Who cares about our trail dust?!
A Desire to Savor the Moment
And don't those moments become sweeter and more nostalgic with each passing day?
